9 1/2 Weeks

I'm no fan of Kim Basinger so whatever chemistry there was between John and and Elizabeth, it was lost on me. Mickey plays John, a Wall Street broker (and a really bored one in my opinion). John intrigues me. Came across to me as a rather anonymous character with two extreme sides to him. One is the perfect, charming gentleman, and the other, a sinisterly unpredictable and unfathomable man. Makes you don't know whether to love, hate or fear him.

I'll give this movie 4 out of 5 chillies.

Other Summaries and Reviews:

A man. A woman. And an attraction that became an obsession.

Mickey Rourke (Angel Heart) and Kim Basinger (Fool for Love) take you on an erotic odyssey to the limits of sexual obsession in this steamy story of a love affair that breaks every sexual taboo. Director Adrian Lyne (Flashdance) creates "the most sexualized relationship seen in years" (Vanity Fair) in a lushly photographed rendition of secret fantasies and desires that come vividly to life onscreen.

Set against the high-tech backdrop of Manhattan, 9 1/2 Weeks is the length of the affair between Elizabeth, a beautiful art dealer, and John, the man who becomes her lover and who irrevocably changes her life. After a tantalizing initial encounter, John charts the course of their sensual journey together in a deadly serious game of sexual dominance, unlocking the door to hidden dreams, pain and ecstasy.

The highly charged scenes evoke "responses toward sex in cinema that haven't been touched for years" (Village Voice), underscored by a pulsing soundtrack featuring the Eurythmics, Joe Cocker, Bryan Ferry and many others. 9 1/2 Weeks is a passionate and provocative look at love and obsession that is moving, thrilling and sometimes shocking.

The irresistable Kim Basinger stars as an art gallery owner who falls in love with commodities broker John (Mickey Rourke). Though frightened by his somewhat unpredictable behaviour, she just cannot break away from him. Find out why in this alluring movie. -- 8 Days magazine
Yuppie lawyer Mickey Rourke draws gallery worker Kim Basinger into an obsessive relationship. Watch this if only to see if it deserved all the publicity it got for its supposed eroticism. -- 8 Days magazine (Absolutely idiotic summary. Firstly, John wasn't a lawyer and secondly, this summary was from a local tv guide so whoever wrote it should have known that all erotic scenes will be censored for tv broadcasting.)

Movie Quotes

"It's not any riskier than you coming here. Coming out here where there's no neighbours around... I mean we hardly know each other. I mean I don't know you, you really don't know me. I mean there's no taxi cab waiting on the kerb... There's no phone booth outside. There's no one to hear you if you call out. Just you and me." -- John to Elizabeth.

"Everytime I see you, you're buying a chicken." -- John to Elizabeth.
